Chica da Silva´s House It deserves special attention for its architecture and its straight relation with the Arraial do Tijuco’s history in the most prosperous diamonds phase. Chica da Silva’s House is among the most interesting examples of residential buildings in the colonial period. The precise year of its construction is unknown due to lack of documentation. Though it is certain that the house belonged to the trader João Fernandes de Oliveira who lived there with the legendary Chica da Silva probably between the years of 1763 and 1771. According to local tradition, the small chapel built in Saint Quitéria’s honor by the right side of the house was for the exclusive use of Chica da Silva. The chapel was later demolished and had its façade recovered by IPHAN in 1951. The internal divisions of the house are of pau-a-pique, the floor of large wooden boards, the ceiling of wood or mats, and there is a big balcony with open wood frames.
